At Silafu, we care deeply about our planet and are taking steps to ensure we are consciously creating and working towards greater sustainability. We are proud of the progress we have made, but we are still learning and understand there is still much work to do.

Compostable mailing bags

We have introduced the use of compostable mailing bags and use them for all orders we are able to make. You may have received your order in one of these little pink or black bags. They can be composted at home and completely decompose within 90-120 days. If they end up in landfill, they take longer to break down but won’t leave harmful microplastics in the environment (however, customers are fully encouraged to compost them at home if possible).

Compostable/recyclable plastic produce bags

When we first started Silafu, we were completely shocked to discover that it was common practice for businesses to individually package all their products in plastic. We immediately removed this practice from our supply chain and introduced compostable bags made from PLA (environmentally friendly and plant-derived), which are plastic-free but still protect our products.

While this is a step in the right direction, we continue to work hard to reduce the use of plastic in all parts of the supply chain.

Hygiene stickers

We are working hard to phase out the use of plastic hygiene stickers and aim to be completely plastic-free by 2024. We will work to protect our products by using compostable product bags and/or using compostable hygiene stickers.

Fabric

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to transform our pieces into sustainable fabrics. After extensive research and testing, we are proud to announce that each bikini will be made from at least 50% recycled fabrics without compromising on quality or comfort. Going forward, we will continue to use sustainable fabrics, with the goal of having every bikini made entirely from eco-friendly fabrics.

Smart cycle

While we do our best to minimize waste and plastic use in all areas of Silafu, we cannot completely eliminate the use of plastic, but our team works by collecting and recycling all soft plastics to ensure that these plastics do not end up in will be discarded in landfills.
